Lisa 6th in final stage ATOC

We celebrated after winning the team classification at Amgen Tour of California empowered with SRAM on Saturday 18 May. The group moved into the lead after Omer Shapira’s breakaway effort on the second stage climb to Mt Baldy. With Shapira finishing 5th, Kasia Niewiadoma 6th and Hannah Barnes 19th on the queen stage, the team took a lead in the classification.

The final stage finished in a reduced bunch sprint, with Lisa Klein sprinting to sixth place. “Firstly it is more important to say that I am really happy how the team raced and that we won the team GC. So I am proud of the team!” said Lisa.

“Today Kasia and Hannah did a great job to bring the breakaway back on the final circuit. I appreciate their help and trust.” “It was obvious that I was angry with myself after the finish. Getting sixth in the sprint is not satisfying and I also wanted to finish off the great team work. However, I didn’t launch my sprint very well. In my head, I had a clear tactic–I wanted to jump as late as possible–but after the demanding stage I had no sprinter legs anymore. It was a tough day out and I am happy to be there in the end and to make it over all those climbs.”

The tour was won overall by Anna van der Breggen (DLT), with Kasia Niewiadoma and Omer Shapira finishing fifth and eighth respectively on the general classification.
