Silver medal in the team time trial world championships

CANYON//SRAM Racing have finished second in the team time trial today at the UCI Road World Championships in Doha, Qatar. With an average speed of 48.5km/hour for the 40km course, the team finished 48 seconds behind winners Boels Dolmans, with Cervelo-Bigla almost two minutes behind in third place.

CANYON//SRAM Racing went through the first intermediate checkpoint at a blistering speed with the fastest time by nine seconds. At the next checkpoint the team had slipped to second place, slower by fourteen seconds. Despite a strong technique and superb efforts from the riders, the team lost 48 seconds to the winners, finishing in second place to take the silver medal.

After the race Director Sportif Ronny Lauke said “They have started well and as planned. We wanted to ride the start circuit smooth but with a high steady speed to avoid peaks. They did it well and this has lead to the best first intermediate.”

“On the cross head wind section leading towards Doha city, the winners played their strength as shown majority of the season, and we couldn’t bounce back. We have tried everything and the girls went into their limits and more.”

All nine riders from CANYON//SRAM Racing will now join their respective national federations to compete in the individual time trial on Tuesday 11 October and the road race on Saturday 15 October:

Germany: Lisa Brennauer (ITT, RR), Trixi Worrack (ITT, RR), Mieke Kröger (RR)

Italy: Elena Cecchini (RR), Barbara Guarischi (RR)

Belarus: Alena Amialiusik (ITT, RR)

Great Britain: Hannah Barnes (ITT, RR)

USA: Alexis Ryan (RR)

Australia: Tiffany Cromwell (RR)
