ALEXIS JUST OFF THE PODIUM IN GERA

Alexis Ryan narrowly missed a podium place on today’s second stage of Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour. The two-lap circuit around Gera finished in a bunch sprint with Lorena Wiebes (DSM) taking line honours ahead of a sixty-rider strong peloton.

“The team vibe was relaxed and confident today,” described Ryan.

“We knew the sprint would be a very fast and dangerous run in, so we planned to have Tiffany (Cromwell) and Lisa (Klein) help me into position. They both took incredibly strong, long pulls and dropped me off at the front in the last kilometre.”

“I was sixth wheel entering the tram lines at 350 metres to go. A gap opened between the 3rd and 4th rider through that corner, which is how the three on the podium managed to hold their position. I closed the gap, but wasn’t able to pass before we reached the line,” said Ryan who takes confidence going into the next stages.

“I’m pleased with my performances over the last two days and hope that I keep inching towards a win!”

Ella Harris quietly moves into third place on the mountain classification, while Tiffany Cromwell slipped down one position to seventh in the general classification, 19 seconds behind leader Emma Norsgaard (MOV). Tomorrow’s stage can be followed on Twitter with #LTLT21 and delayed highlights will be broadcast on GCN+ and MDR Thüringen here.
