ELISE TAKES THIRD IN GC PODIUM

Elise Chabbey finished third on the general classification after today’s final of the Ceratizit Challenge Vuelta. Supported by her teammates, Elise had no trouble defending her position on the podium despite a fast and dynamic final stage.

Alena Amialiusik played a major role for the team, being present in the two main breakaways. With the final breakaway rider caught after the flamme rouge, a reduced peloton sprinted to an uphill finish line in Santiago de Compostela. Lotte Kopecky (LIV) won the stage with Kasia Niewiadoma finishing seventh for CANYON//SRAM Racing.

“It’s going to take a day to sink in. We did it,” exclaimed Elise after the podium ceremony.

“If you told me at the start of my cycling career, that I could finish on the GC podium in a women’s world tour race, I would not have believed it. And now to do it within three years, it’s incredible,” said Elise who became a full-time pro cyclist in 2019.

CANYON//SRAM Racing also won the official team classification, although race organisers provided no podium ceremony for the classification.

Elise added, “We had some great racing this week. I’m thankful for the efforts of my teammates, and our staff who worked hard to help get this success too. Then, winning the team classification is a bonus for all of us.”

Elise is one of six CANYON//SRAM Racing riders who will compete at next week’s European Road Championships in Trento, Italy. Chabbey (Switzerland), Alena Amialiusik (Belarus), Lisa Klein and Hannah Ludwig (Germany), Kasia Niewiadoma (Poland), and Omer Shapira (Israel) will all race at the event held between 8 and 12 September.
