Liège–Bastogne–Liège - the Ardennes final

, 03.10.2020

CANYON//SRAM Racing go into Liège–Bastogne–Liège with a roster of Hannah Barnes, Elena Cecchini, Hannah Ludwig, Kasia Niewiadoma, Alexis Ryan and Omer Shapira. With the cancellation of Amstel Gold race, the race tomorrow, Sunday 4 October will be the final race of this year’s Ardennes classics.

“We’ve had some nice days between Fléche Wallonne and tomorrow’s race,” said Hannah.

“We’ve seen the course, including the new changes and we’ve been able to recover as best as possible thanks to our physio’s.”

The 135km course from Bastogne to Liège has five categorised climbs but with a new mid-section and different final kilometres of the race, Barnes predicts the change lends itself to more aggressive racing.

“With the harder section in the middle part, it will be important to be in position and ready for action a lot earlier than previous years. The weather is definitely going to play a role too as it’s probably going to be cold and wet.”

Hannah continued, “Personally I’m aiming to be in the action of the race on the La Redoute which is after 105km. That’s my biggest goal. It’s going to be an interesting race and I’m really looking forward to it.”

“Our team is going in with the aim of being proactive and rather aggressive. Some of the peloton is tired after the heavy period of racing. We want to be active early, and enjoy the racing as much as possible,” said Hannah.
