6th in the TTT stage 1

We finished sixth in today’s team time trial (TTT) opening stage of the Giro Rosa, in Grosseto, Italy. The team had an average speed of 49.5km/hour, finishing 16 seconds behind stage winners Trek-Segafredo.

“Overall our technique was good. We missed some points at the start but we all tried hard. We’ll debrief over the race and there’s some areas we can learn from to get back to being the best at this discipline,” said Hannah Barnes after the finish.

“It’s a great feeling to be here with the team and to have done a TTT. It was super painful, and I went really deep. It wasn’t a perfect run, but we all gave our best and that’s important,” said teammate Lisa Klein.

“We were quickly in five riders so we missed some recovery time. In my opinion, we lost quite some time at the start coming out of the city. In general, the race was good. It was an okay start to the Giro Rosa but we need to focus in the next days and we need to be hungry to do even better. Kasia was in front of me today and she was doing some strong pulls, so her form is there. Whatever the teams asks me to do in these next stages I’m ready to support and I’m looking forward to it,” added Lisa.

Tomorrow’s stage two is 122.5km from Civitella Paganico to Arcidosso, and with 2775m of elevation the stage is tipped to quickly re-shape the general classification.
