It was scorching conditions on the 141km Stage 8 of the Giro Rosa in the province of Salerno. The queen stage, with a Category 2 climb to Cuccaro Vetere, was won by Lucinda Brand (SUN) solo ahead of Tetyana Riabchenko (Lensworld) who had been in the lead for much of the stage.
Brand was one minute behind Riabchenko over the top of the QOM, but after a technical descent, Brand was able to catch the leader just before the final. Despite a late crash Brand was able to take the Stage 8 win.
Hannah Barnes had attacked the chase group on the QOM but was caught again on uncategorised climb around 3km before the finish. Barnes finished 13th on the stage with teammate Elena Cecchini just ahead in 12th.
The penultimate stage 9 is 122km from Palinuro to Polla, and racing starts at 12:15.
