READY FOR TROFEO ALFREDO BINDA

CANYON//SRAM Racing returns to Italy for Trofeo Alfredo Binda—Comune in Cittiglio on Sunday, March 17. The team will field five riders: Ricarda Bauernfeind, Neve Bradbury, Elise Chabbey, Tiffany Cromwell, and Soraya Paladin.

The Women’s World Tour race started in 1974 and is the longest-running one-day race on the women’s calendar, entering its 25th edition in 2024. In the morning, Piccolo Trofeo Binda for junior women is held as part of the Nation’s Cup series and boasts a palmares of winners who have later become some of the best riders in the world.

This prestigious race, named after Italian cycling legend Alfredo Binda, promises a thrilling battle. Notably, in 2024, the peloton heads straight to the long climb out of Rancio before winding back to Cittiglio for five local hilly circuits, one more than in previous years. The challenging parcours, characterised by punchy climbs and descents, often favour climbers and puncheurs seeking to break away from the bunch and thwart a mass sprint. The previous editions of the race have seen every outcome, from bunch sprints and small groups to solo breakaways. The race is renowned for its unpredictability and exciting finale.

Elise Chabbey says, “The extra lap around Cittiglio this year can make it harder, but Binda also has its own character. It’s unpredictable and can explode early in the circuits or only on the last time up the climb. We prefer  a harder race with as small a group as possible contesting the final.”

Soraya Paladin says, “I’m looking forward to Sunday as I always like the course. I wasn’t feeling 100% well at Strade Bianche, but I’ve now improved and expect a much better race. Binda always has a lot of action and is unpredictable with how it will be won. As a team, we are prepared to create different scenarios to get the victory.”

HOW TO WATCH
