Brennauer fourth on stage three of Thüringen Rundfahrt

Lisa Brennauer from CANYON//SRAM Racing has sprinted to fourth today at the International Ladies Tour of Thüringen in Altenburg. The third stage was won by Marianne Vos (RLT), her second stage win of the tour, ahead of Emma Johansson (WHT) and Ellen van Dijk (DLT). Brennauer keeps the Best German Rider jersey.

Following the stage Brennauer describes the last kilometres of the race. “After we caught back the last break the speed stayed high. The team brought me into a very good position. Going into the last kilometre Amanda Spratt (OGE) attacked. Directly when she was caught back Annemiek van Vleuten (OGE) went and drove it until Vos attacked just before the last corner. The speed was so high and through all of the corners there were a lot of splits in the bunch. I was fourth in the sprint.”

Young American rider Alexis Ryan won the Most Combative Jersey on the stage after being in a break for much of the stage. “Overall I’m not feeling my best. I finished the Giro Rosa on Sunday and it was longer than any other race I’ve done before. I came here without expectations but seeking opportunities. The first two stages were rough. My legs felt like I couldn’t contribute much. Today was another story. I made several moves, including the one that was away for a quarter of the race. It was a valiant effort but we were caught in the end.”

Olga Zabelinskaya (Russian National Team) keeps the leader’s jersey with an advantage of three seconds from Vos. Elena Cecchini is the best placed CANYON//SRAM Racing rider at 7th on the general classification, 36 seconds behind the leader. Stage four tomorrow is a 19km individual time trial around Zeulenroda Lakes. The tour organisers have dedicated the stage to Amy Gillet who lost her life in a training accident ahead of the 2005 Thüringen tour. The first rider starts at 18:38 (CEST). Follow the racing on the team’s Twitter @WMNcycling.
