ELISE AND SORAYA IN THE TOP TEN ON BURGOS DAY 1

The team had a strong start to Vuelta a Burgos Feminas when Elise Chabbey and Soraya Paladin sprinted to fourth and eighth place, respectively.

The anticipated bunch sprint stage came down to the wire, with a solo breakaway rider caught only in the final kilometres, and both Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka and Alice Towers launching late attacks. With less than 2km on the stage, another attack from Carina Schrempf put all the leadout riders again under pressure. Caught only in the final metres, it was an incredibly fast sprint. Soraya narrowly avoided a crash in the closing stages, and never had the opportunity to start her sprint. Elise sprinted impressively to fourth place, just missing the podium and bonus seconds.

In the general classification, Elise and Soraya are placed sixth and ninth at +10 seconds behind leader Lotta Hentala. Alice and Neve Bradbury are sixth and seventh in the youth classification, on the same time as the leader, Megan Jastrab.

RIDER REACTIONS

Elise Chabbey: “Overall, the stage was good for the team. We wanted to bring Maike to the finish for the sprint, but in the final 10 kilometres, she lost the wheel when the chase was really on in the crosswinds.

Aga’s attack was nice, and Alice also tried. This left Soraya and me for the sprint. I was trying to help position Soraya, but we were separated. In the end, I sprinted, but without throwing my bike at the line, I lost the third place. We’re looking forward to tomorrow!”
